8 April, 19:30: Medzani Musandiwa is a poet originally from Venda, Limpopo, but has spent the majority of his life in Johannesburg. His interest in poetry originated from a show on SABC 1 hosted by Lebo Mashile. Though the show itself wasn’t geared towards poetry, what caught his interest was the poem she’d read at the end of every episode; specifically, the way Mashile captured the essence of the episode with the poem she’d read inspired him to start writing poetry. After years of subsequent experimentation, Musandiwa was published in Carapace. Since then, he’s been published in Stanzas, New Coin, New Contrast and a few anthologies, most notably, the Africa series. His debut collection, currently titled And the Villagers Began to Stir, is in the works, and will be published by the Explainer Press in 2024. Join on Zoom!
