Jean Watermeyer is a scientist, teacher and writer. She has a doctorate in Structural Biology from the University of Cape Town and has worked as a postdoctoral researcher at UCT and at Birkbeck College, London. She most recently taught high school Life Sciences and is currently a full-time mom to her young son, a lockdown baby. In her writing, she tries to be musical, experimental and expressive. Her poems have appeared in Stanzas and in the McGregor festival anthologies. In 2018, her poem Rain at Home, was shortlisted for the McGregor Poetry Festival prize.
