Gaireyah’s her two debut collections Kaaps is Hollands and Mientjies, were both nominated for the Eugene Marais literary prize, and she has won many other prizes, including the Neville Alexander prestige prize. She was selected for the Jakes Gerwel writer's residency after completing her Masters in Arts in Creative writing at Rhodes University. She published with Kwela, her first mainstream publication, een voet innie kabr. Her translation to Kaaps of Russell Kaschula's Knife's Edge will be launched in August. She represented South Africa recently at the opening ceremony of the First International Youth Poetry festival – special session for BRICS countries in China.
