Ken Barris

Ken Barris is a retired academic, writer and book critic, and currently works an

editor.

He has won various literary awards, including the Ingrid Jonker Prize, the M-Net

Book Prize, and the Thomas Pringle Award; most recently, the University of

Johannesburg Prize for his novel Life Underwater, and the Herman Charles Bosman

Prize for a collection of short stories, The Life of Worm & Other Misconceptions.

He has published five novels, two collections of poetry, and two collections of short

stories.

He has also judged various literary awards, including as lead judge in the Sunday

Times Fiction Award in 2019 and 2021.

Geoffrey Haresnape

Geoff Haresnape has authored six collections of poems: Drive of the Tide (Maskew Miller- 1976) , New-Born Images (Justified Press- 1991), Mulberries in Autumn, (Snailpress- 1996), The Living and the Dead & Selected Poems (Snailpress -2005), and Where the Wind Wills (Echoing Green Press- 2011). This reading will help him to launch his The Poems of Tom Southcross appearing in The Explainer’s Press Poetry Chapbook Series (2025). Geoff has been much anthologized in South Africa.

He has won several poetry prizes and has been published in the US, Canada, the UK, Israel and India.

juli Jana Roussouw

juli Jana Roussouw will be appearing at OTW on Sept 1.

As both  poet and visual artist juliJana Roussouw expresses herself with the brush and the word. 

She received an MA in Creative Research in Poetry from Roehampton University, London. Her chapbook, ra-t, was published by Shearsman Publishers, UK with a review in PN Review. Her poems have been published both in South Africa and UK magazines. SCENT OF PLACES is her first collection.

She was a featured poet-artist ( artist juli Jana) in The High Window. JuliJana Roussouw has held a number of exhibitions in South Africa and overseas. She holds  WORD & VISUAL workshops in Cape Town.
